Srishti proudly presents Indian Classical Maestro Pandit Jasraj. To lovers of Indian classical music, Pandit Jasraj needs little introduction. In a career spanning half a century, he has established a reputation in India and abroad as one of the foremost male vocalists of Indian classical music. Trained under the Mewati Gharana, Pandit Jasraj brings to his performances a rich repertoire of ragas, an inimitable style of singing “khayals” as well as “bhajans” and other devotional genres, an opulent ornamentation of phrasing and a mellifluous and majestic voice.
Born in 1930 into a musical family, Pandit Jasraj received his earliest training from his father, Pandit Motiram and his brother, Pandit Maniram. Srishti added another feather to its cap with the recent hosting of the eminent Rabindrasangeet artist Rezwana Chowdhuri Bannya at the Langley High School auditorium. True to her reputation as the leading female voice in Rabindrasangeet, she enthralled the audience with her exquisite rendition of some of Tagore's most difficult works. The members of the audience, who braved the biting cold temperature to be there, listened in rapturous attention as they were taken on a transcendental journey by Rezwana for more than two and half hours.
